Key facts:

  • University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) operates from three main hospital sites - Royal Lancaster Infirmary, Furness General Hospital in Barrow and Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal - serving a population of approximately 350,000 spread across an area of over 1,000 square miles.  It is also responsible for outpatient services at Ulverston Community Health Centre and Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe.
  • NHS Lancashire North Clinical Commissioning Group is made up of 13 GP practices in Garstang, Lancaster, Morecambe and Carnforth.  There are around 120 GPs working in the area and there is a registered population of 160,000. 
  • NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group covers the whole of Cumbria.  However, it is people in the Furness, South Lakeland and Eden areas who predominantly use the hospitals runs by University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust.  The registered population is 246,000 and there are 46 GP practices.
  • North West Ambulance Service North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport. They also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
  • Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provide over 60 expert health services across Cumbria, supporting people in our communities to live happier, healthier and more hopeful lives. It provides mental health and community services in Cumbria, England. It runs the Ramsey Unit at Furness General Hospital, Barrow In Furness, Mary Hewetson Cottage Hospital, Keswick Penrith Community Hospital, Reiver House and The Carleton Clinic, Carlisle and employs more than 4,000 people
  • Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves population of approximately 440,000 residents across Blackpool, Fylde, Wyre, Lancashire and South Cumbria and the North of England. The trust  employs more than 6,000 staff with a budget of approximately £335m per year. There are around 830 beds across all sites and the trust sees more than 56,000 day-case and inpatients, 250,000 outpatients and over 91,000 A & E patients every year.
  • Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust provides health and wellbeing services for a population of around 1.4million people. The services provided include community services such as health visiting, podiatry, sexual health and dentistry as well as inpatient and community mental health services. The Trust covers the whole of the county and employs around 7,000 members of staff across more than 400 sites.
  • Lancashire County Council serve everyone who lives or works in Lancashire, helping people to be healthy, happy and enjoy a good quality of life. They're role is to protect the most vulnerable members of the communities who need some extra support.
  • Cumbria County Council provide social care in Cumbria and are responsible for providing people with access to care and support.
